Last year Taco Bell introduced a campaign in conjunction with Major League Baseball during the World Series. The campaign promises to give free Dorito Locos Tacos to all of America if a player in the World Series steals a base at any point during the world series. The campaign took on the name and hashtag, #stealabasestealataco.
Up until the steal,
MLB broadcasters talked about Taco Bells campaign any time there was a runner
on first base that had the potential to steal a base. They as well showed
glimpses of last years "Taco Hero," Cleveland's shortstop, Francisco
Lindor and posed the question, "Who will be this year's Taco Hero."
During game two of
this year's World Series, the campaign's promise came to fruition when
Houston's Cameron Maybin stole second base.
After Maybin stole
the base the announcers of the game stopped and read off a quick statement
about the campaign and told the viewers that everyone in America would be able
to "steal" a Dorito Locos Taco from all participating Taco Bells.
Along with the announcement from Major League Baseball during the game, Taco
Bell took to Twitter and announced the results.
They as well
responded to Cameron Maybin's tweet the following day.
Cameron, you’re our taco hero. 🙌 https://t.co/dMWoXJ2YxG— Taco Bell (@tacobell) October 26, 2017
Taco Bell did a
decent job of promoting the campaign; however, they did not keep the standard
that they did last year through social media. The 2016 kick-off was featured on
all of the Taco Bell social media platforms, whereas this year it was only
featured on Twitter.
Taco Bell neglected
to post anything about the steal on their Instagram page which has over 1.1
million followers. Therefore, it seems that they put this campaign on the back
burner this year. They could have reached more people if they had posted on their
other platforms.
The campaign seems
to be very successful regardless of their lack of social media engagement. I am
sure that millions of people will get their free taco on November 1.
What an awesome campaign. Especially when its Taco Bell that is introducing it.
ReplyDeleteReally cool campaign. Too bad the taco bell in Ada is closed.
ReplyDeleteThis campaign is awesome! I love Taco Bell regardless, but this makes me just want more Taco Bell. It really makes me want our Taco Bell to open up again, so I can get some delicious Doritos locos tacos!
